When students move back to school for a new school year, the amount of energy consumed by students is unfathomable. It is reported by Energy Star that "colleges and universities spend close to $2 billion dollars each year on energy" which the money could be used towards something more effective. Students living in dorm rooms at colleges and universities have a lot of objects plugged into walls and outlets, which consumes a lot of energy at a time.
As a public relations student I would propose that colleges and universities implement a strategy for each residence hall that would make it mandatory for students to unplug the objects or appliances they are not using every night at a specific time.
This will help the climate by reducing the amount of energy used and help the environment with the reduction of coal mining and pollution power plant pollution. This might be absurd, but it could be a hit. I think saving energy it important and needed to be emphasised to young people in order to help the pollution rate for the future. The environment is not getting better, but it is our duty as a citizen to help make the world a better place to live.
