This was my second year participating in Baldwin County's Relay For Life Kickoff event. I had the opportunity to help plan this event with my fellow classmates in my Public Relations Admin class. Going into it this year, I knew there was going to be more direction and guidance through the event planning process.
The American Cancer Society's slogan is "The official sponsor of birthdays." We were going to plan one big birthday party! Exciting! Our theme this year was "Celebrate a Memory" with the added perfect touch of cupcakes. Our class decorated Northside Baptist Church's fellowship hall beautifully and it had the feeling of a true classy birthday party.
This year's added touch, like I said earlier was a cupcake that my team had pitched to Baldwin County's ACS committee on doing. We had cupcakes at every place setting with a candle in it. After the survivor video (which was really moving and not a dry eye in the room) those in attendance stood up with their lighted cupcake and made a wish that cancer would one day have a cure. It was a beautiful moment!
I really felt like our class came together and put on a beautiful event that was a true testament of how hard we worked on it. If it were not for our connections within the community and wonderful donations, we would have had to pay for this event out of pocket! Great job PR Admin 2009!! We ROCK!
